KIM WAFER TYPE 'B5' BUTTERFLY VALVES KIM Wafer Type B-5 Butterfly valves are made of cast iron body with a vulcanized EPDM rubber liner for temperatures up to 110° C (230° F). The valves have a ductile iron disc coated with porcelain enamel to stand polluted and aggressive media. This provides a smooth surface and edge for a long seat life and low closing torque with non-adherence to mineral deposits. |

FIRED PORCELAIN ENAMEL DISC The porcelain enameled coated disc of KIM Wafer Type B-5 Butterfly valves, is applied in a furnace at 800° C, and is superior to spray or fusion-bonded type epoxy finishes. The thermal application results in excellent adhesion to the base metal. The edge of the disc remains glossy and smooth, and ensures a long seat life and low closing torque. The enamel applied to the disc is corrosion resistant to cold, hot and boiling water, lake and seawater, reclaimed and grey water, domestic and industrial sewage containing ozone, chlorine, free carbonic acid and other acid and alkaline solutions. ONE PIECE STEM A corrosion-resistant, high-strength, one-piece stem made of stainless steel, ensures maximum alignment and rigidity. Milled double "D" connection guarantees a positive drive. The stem end is standardized for interchangeability of levers, operating nuts, gears and extension stems. STEM BUSHINGS The stem is accurately guided by non-corrosive bronze bushings, two at the top and one at the bottom. This unique system of isolating the stem from contact with iron, eliminates rust build-up. MOLDED-IN LINER/BODY DESIGN A molded-in liner is fully bonded to the machined body, thereby eliminating completely the leakage between body and liner found in cartridge and booted-type liners. The liner extends outside both sides of the valve body; therefore no additional gasketing is needed. The liner forms primary and secondary stem seal both top and bottom. The valve bodies are designed to withstand service pressure of 250 PSIG. They feature extended necks, locating holes and mounting pads to accommodate all types of actuators. TRIPLE STEM SEALINGS The surfaces, surrounding the stem opening in the disc, align tightly to the molded liner and constitute the first seal. This prevents the media from contacting the stem. The liner extends fully into the neck, top and bottom, surrounding the stem and comprises the second seal. An 'O' ring is the third stem seal, providing maximum pressure and vacuum tightness. CAST IRON GEAR OPERATOR The cast iron gear operator is totally sealed, lubricated for life and features adjustable stop screws for precise setting. The gearbox is weatherproof and suitable for buried service.
